After In Paris
With over 1,000 compositions for production music libraries, they develop strong conceptual work tailored primarily to audiovisual needs.âšTheir music ranges from orchestral comedy to minimalism, via jazz, soul and electro. Emotional melodies, sounds full of energy and hope, and rhythms of love all come together in the creation and production of original works â an ode to contemplative, piano-driven and cinematic music. They are three musicians, both programmers of musical machines and instrumentalists: âą Claire Michael â saxophonist, flutist and vocalist âą Jean-Michel Vallet â keyboards âą Patrick Chartol â electric and double bass Their music is built from samples, sound design and vocal extracts taken from the films Shadows by John Cassavetes, The Maltese Falcon by John Huston, and Citizen Kane by Orson Welles â who also appears through excerpts from his radio shows. At certain moments, Paolo Fresu (trumpet), Dave Liebman (saxophones) and Christophe Bras (drums) join this collection of mostly nocturnal atmospheres, even at faster tempos. Sometimes contemplative, sometimes driven and intense, the sound constructions of Time Cycle reveal, listen after listen, their mysteries, surprises and emotions. They also compose original works for theatre, cinema and radio idents. In addition, they perform their music live and travel the world, appearing on some of the most prestigious stages:âšJazz in Marciac (France), Ouro Preto Jazz Festival (Brazil), Belo Horizonte (Brazil), Interart Festival de Capivara (Brazil), Baku International Jazz Festival (Azerbaijan), Festival Mimi (Arles), J&B Festival (Istanbul),âšPorgy & Bess (Vienna), Casino de Paris, Théùtre Dejazet, Cirque dâHiver, New Morning, Sunset, Duc des Lombards⊠The group AFTER IN PARIS is also a trio of seasoned travellers, true globetrotters if you look at the rĂ©sumĂ©s of Jean-Michel Vallet (Serge Gainsbourg, IRCAM, Paco SĂ©ry, Karl ZĂ©ro, âŠ) and Patrick Chartol (MC Solaar, Brooklyn Funk Essentials, Nekropsi, âŠ). And you can hear it: Claire Michael was voted âNewcomer of the Yearâ by the Brazilian press, a sign of the immediate connection between their musical creations and an international audience. They have also collaborated with: Johnny Hallyday, MC Solaar, Jacques Higelin, Raul de Souza, Didier Lockwood, Paco SĂ©ry, Toninho Horta, Caito Marcondes, Ray Lema, William Sheller, Manu Dibango, Sertab Erener (Eurovision winner), Taraf de HaĂŻdouks, Laco Tayfa (Brooklyn Funk Essentials / Double Moon), Paolo Fresu, Dave Liebman, Maxime Saury, Steve Lacy, Ziskakan and many others. Their latest album, a tribute to John Coltrane entitled Trane Steps, has received glowing reviews in the press. With modern tools, these jazzy melodies simply evoke the memory of Saint-Germain-des-PrĂ©s. Jean-Michel Vallet moves effortlessly between piano and computer, Claire Michael plays tenor sax and flute with lightness, and Patrick Chartol drives this airy, precise and perfectly balanced repertoire on bass, double bass and keyboards.
